Dear Andy,
I had posted the same problem earlier and am pretty used to the usual replies.Elsewhere in the forum the same problem has been met by many other individuals and all of them are RD2BA specific ( or atleast RD2BN).
Unfortunately I have tried everything ... even the "last resort".
No offence meant Andy but the first 3 replies you give are something you have specified in the documentation available. Most users have tried all of them already and want your expertise to go beyond them.
I am still waiting for the BA to work and have switched on to other things.

Hi Andy,
I am not using the hi-speed comm option at all.Abt the h/w.... it is the same one I continue to use for HBA and RD+
If there is something more specific that needs to be tried at the h/w level I'll give it a try.But again , I have also tried putting a RC combination as recomended in the errata sheet and it made no diff. to the BA.

I think Erik u kind of mistook the post.Read this again
"I have even tried to reprogram the boot vector on a parallel prog. The programmer shows a successful reprogram but it does'nt work."
This meant that eventhough the parallel progr. "showed" a successful reprogram OF THE BOOT VECTOR, the chips didn't enter ISP mode when put into my ISP h/w. Please redirect ur ridicule to something less important to this forum.

Hi,
I have now become a regular user of FlashMagic for my RD+ and HBA programming so much so that my company never thought of fixing the old parallel programmer!!
Now for the current problem..
It has now become impossible to re-program the RD2BA.This is happenning with all my RD2BA chips. With reference to my earlier post for the same problem I can now conclude that most of the chips that I was trying to program were'nt blank ie they had come in for re-programming.
So this time when I started with a fresh chip it entered the ISP mode w/o any hassle. But when I tried to program it once more the usual error msg abt the PC not being able to communicate popped up (and has been ever since!)
Please take my word for the fact that I have looked into all possible settings that are reqd. I have even tried to reprogram the boot vector on a parallel prog. The programmer shows a successful reprogram but it does'nt work. And just to make sure, I repeat everything I try out with the HBA succesfully.
so anybody offering a soln. could move on from this point.I have observed that most ques. for the BA go unanswered here.I hope that does not happen with this problem of mine.So I would suggest to try out this problem with a fresh BA chip.
Thanks for reading all the way,
Gautam

This goes for everyone.
The RD+ "requires" a 12 V voltage at its Vpp pin to get into ISP mode.
Thanks Andy for the earlier replies.
Now the problem lies with the 5 BA chips I tried the same voltage for these chips too but in vain.
I hope we find a solution soon.

Thanks for the really prompt reply.
I found out that the parallel prog. had a default setting of 00 for both, the status byte and status vector .
I got a few more chips going by rewriting these. But kindly tell me if I'll have to rewite them again in flashmagic after they have been programmed to 00.
Abt some more ICs that do not respond, I read in the philips app note that both these have to be erased 6 times before the change may take effect.
How should I consider this condition?

Gautam

Hi everybody,
I did use a parallel port programmer all this time. Then it conked off!!
I found Flash Magic very convenient. But there is this recurrent problem that I am facing. The ICs range from the HBA, RD2 and even the RD+.
Almost all have been programmed earlier on the parallel prog. and refuse to communicate with the PC.On an avg., out of the 10 HBA chips I tried to program in Flash Magic only 2 responded.
Now the problem is not in the cable or the comm port coz the other 2 ICs are programmed smoothly. Is it possible to check if the factory masked BootROM has been erased and if yes then how do I feed these chips with a new BootROM code.
I have tried the debug mode but since the chip fails to comm further, i am totally at loss!
I am using a 18.432 MHz crystal and comm. at 9600 kbps
I am looking for an urgent solution coz there's a production plan pending.Hence forgive me if I have overlooked any info already available.
