Communication problem P89C669 with Flash Magic

Recently we purchased a Phytec phyCORE 8xC51-Mx2 developmentboard for evaluating the P89C669 controller.
When trying to read the device signature and security bits with Flash Magic,
a serial communication cannot be made. Have also tried lower baudrates, but the connection problem still exists. We are using the supplied serial cable.
What could be the reason for this??

Try working through the steps in the Flash Magic application note "what to do when ISP does not work" and see if that helps. If not then it will lead you to generating debug information so I can see what is going on.
