problems in erasing P89C51RD2BN

Dear Friend....
        I'm erasing the mcu for the first time...but when i attempt doing so,  The 'FlashMagic' hangs, though it is connected at 9600 baud rate and the status bar reads 'erasing block 0'...i waited for above 5 minutes for the message 'finished erasing device' message, or something like that but in vain. I closed the software and had to reconnect the mcu only after hardware reset. When it read the flash memory bloch it showed all 00h...please help

Sometimes I have waited for much longer than 5minutes. Check your
hardware and power supply.
